The Pump House – Sleeps 4 People, one dog permitted
Renovation started in 2021 and was completed in Spring 2022; The Pump House was once a single room housing a huge pump that pumped water for the steam engines at la gare de Sos. We have no original pictures of the interior in times gone by unfortunately but the huge solid wood internal beams are testimony to it’s previous industrial function. We do have a photograph of the huge hole in the floor where the huge beam engine was located, long long ago. It now has two floors, open plan kitchen & lounge downstairs, heated by a log burner, and two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. It has a wonderful riverside location, with the grounds leading down to the gentle river Gélise, a tributary of the river Baïse. An enormous well remains in the garden and we are looking for solutions to incorporate it into a garden feature – as yet it is a raised and covered stone circular well – 10 ft diameter and very deep. There is an abundance of wild life here – garden birds & butterflies galore amidst a collection of trees and grassy banks in a natural riverside surrounding. Privacy is provided by a hornbeam hedge and safe parking is by the side of the property. One side of The Pump House is open access to the low traffic road – please consider this if you are bringing a dog. One small to medium sized dog is permitted in this property at an additional charge. The Pump House is over the road from the station – a smaller property, surrounded by nature, trees, grassy banks & a riverside spot by the river Gelise (La Gélise).
Externally, there is a covered terrace with a table & 4 chairs for outdoor breakfasts & dining, a gas BBQ with a solid wood abri construction over the terracotta tiled patio. Upstairs, there is one double bed and two single beds, all made up for guests’ arrival, a well equipped kitchen with solid oak units and a solid oak staircase to the first floor. There’s a washing machine, dishwasher, electric oven and microwave in the kitchen. A TV is available with French & UK freesat channels and some railway books. There is no telephone or wifi in this property so you can completely indulge in your holiday without work email intrusions, social media bleeps and that constant tapping, swiping and looking down. If you suffer from “Fear of being off-line” though then please ask if you can holiday for a week without wifi. Mobile phone coverage is available but the signal in the valley is weak, much stronger up in the village or at various spots when walking along the old railway line.
